Inclusive Urban Infrastructure: CMRD Resource Guides

The CMRD Resource Guides provide information on a selected topic with links to resources. It includes a summary of previous reporting on a topic including surveys, articles, books, reports, policies and other sources relevant to a particular area of interest. The document is useful for researchers, academics, students and practitioners in their engagements in various sectors.

A listing of the CMRD Resource Guides from the Inclusive Urban Infrastructure (IUI) project is below. IUI is a project funded by UK Research and Innovation through the Global Challenges Research Fund under the title ‘Towards Trajectories of Inclusion: Making infrastructure work for the most marginalised’ (grant reference number ES/T008067/1).


Systems of Water Provision for the Marginalized in Sri Lanka

IUIThe review is the outcome of desk research carried out to understand the current context of the water sector in Sri Lanka. It is a compilation of published research articles, project reports of water supply projects, and official statistics from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) to provide an overall insight into the drinking water supply. The topics discussed in the report are urban, rural, and estate water sectors and issues identified by other research on low-income groups in each area; brief information on water policy (urban drinking water policy and rural water policy); upcoming projects; the current NWSDB tariff structure; and water affordability.

Systems of Housing Provision for the Marginalized in Sri Lanka

IUIThis systems review is an outcome of a desk research study carried out for understanding the current context of the housing sector in Sri Lanka. It is a compilation of significant information from published research articles, reports of recently-established housing development projects, and official statistics from the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) and other sources to provide an overall insight into the housing sector. The topics discussed cover urban, rural, and estate housing issues identified by research on low-income populations in each area, as well as related housing policy.

A Resource Guide for Making Infrastructure Work for the Most Marginalised

IUIThis resource guide is a general description that provides insights into research done on marginalised communities and their service provision in different contexts within Sri Lanka and globally. It includes articles on the five major infrastructure grids: water, sanitation, energy, transport, and communication, together with housing concerning poor inhabitants in a city. The guide is a mix of articles that explain the subject through various perspectives and circumstances of residents, communities, and other related stakeholders. It captures the range of situations from complete exclusion from all services to full inclusion in all major grids.
